Advantages: versatility

Disadvantages: unreliable and not well made

This is without a doubt the most disastrous and BAD buy that I (and my dh) EVER have bought.

Initially we where attracted by the space and versatility this car offered (we bought it Nov 97) and at the time it was the first of the so called mini people carriers around and we thought it was great.

Well we got it home and for the first 12 months (basic guarenty period) things where fine appart from the fact that the back windows keeps sliding down (manuel winding) and if you dont remember to tighten them on a regular basic this can become a easy point for theif's to get in by. (I have 2 other friends with one of theese who has the same problem) after the 12 months (to the day) ran out our reversing light bulb went. No prob we thought covered by guarenty (NO expired..... by 1 week at the time we had got time at garage for first check) Oh btw mr & mrs the car needs new brakes to... (we at this point had driven 8K in it) ok we thought just one of those things and the main point is that we are safe when we are on the road with our children. Speed foreward to this February I am on the M25 with our 2 young children and suddenly the airbag light starts to flash.. Not liking this I decide to pop into Clacket Lane service station to ring my dh to check what he thought. And thank goodness I did as the second I go on the slip road all the lights starts to flash and the car stops running. I am stranded on the Clacket Lane service station with a broken down car and my 2 children (our youngest at the time only 6 weeks) NOW THIS was EXACTLY the reason why we bought NEW So that would NOT happen. RAC comes out (cant fault them btw) and says Oh its the Fan belt and the driver belt that is gone. So no car for a week while they fix that and the powered steering and the altanator (sp?) that all went in this 2 year old car....??? Then only last month the car starting making a grinding noise when turning once more down to the garage and Ups the pipes that deal with the
powered steering has come loose and all the fluid has come out and we need to replace that.....
Now the car is 2.5 years old we cant WAIT to get rid of it (will be next month) we have worked out that we have spend 20% of current market value in repairs (as most off the above stuff are not covered by the extended guarenty that we took out just in case.. that was a waste off money) so a great deal of money. Add to this that Renault grossly over estimated how much this car would be worth 3 years down the line (we are on a ballon payment) and we have also lost the original amount of money that we put down on this car.

The car IS spacious and it DOES have a lot of versatilitty but theese days you can get that in a lot of cars.

Personally I do not think the car is a nice drive (its like driving a mini van)

Ok you said perhaps we have just been unlucky Well yes perhaps we have BUT we have only driven 15K in this car in 2.5 years so basically we have had a VERY bad time with something that we should have been able to rely on.

Personally I wont EVER buy a Renault again.. And the only thing about this that makes me feel a little happy is the fact that I know for certain that I have made 6 people change their minds about buying this car..

Oh in case you where wondering Renault said about the car. Oh at times you just get one that is not as good as the others!!!!!!! (WHAT???)

UPDATE:
I had a car accident in September 00 (not cars fault) but the car was "unecconomical to repair" and it was probably the best thing that could have happend to us. As we where insured we had everything paid for and came out of this mess with only our initial payout lost (and that was a LOT better than we had hoped for) we are now the proud owners of a Citroen Picasso (will write op on that) and will never buy from Renault again. (we have however renewed our rac membership )

tnx Spacey and yes the Picasso is our new car (am working on opinion for it) I tend to not use upper and lower case as I am dyslexic and also English is my second language (I am originally from Denmark) But also this opinion was one of the very first I wrote so I guess (hope) that I have got better lol..
