... came without ABS as standard - to me, if you are going to have a decent engine, then the manufacturers should not even consider selling the car without something as fundamental as ABS. Renault Megane in general ... does have its annoying 'characteristics'. We bought a Megane as I had seen the advertising that it was the safest in its class and as we were at the planning a family stage and having previously owned a 19 which was my bestest car ever I was sold on the idea. The car does have a comfortable ride, good on mpg, sharp brakes, middle diagonal seat belt in rear etc, but ... The remote central locking is rubbish - you have to be close to the car, or just at the correct angle, both my husband and I find the car stalls very easily - usually when manevouring into parking spaces - also the car does not seem to have much power. Renault Clio Si 1.9 dTi 5dr ... first saw the car at a main dealership in Blackpool and thought yes, this Renault Clio Dti Si looks like the car for me. I took if for a test drive and noticed that the gear-stick was rather 'jumpy' when you put your foot on & off the gas, (as though an engine mounting was loose) - i pointed this out to the 'salesman' - along with a suspicious noise (a 'hollow' type sound as though the air filter wasn't fitted) coming from under the bonnet. The salesman assured me that the vehicle would be thoroughly checked over prior to delivery and would personally point out these queries to the service mechanics. Renault Megane in general ... The Renault Megane is probably one of the widest appealing cars on the road today. It combines the inside luxury of a large executive car, but is the size of a family, hatchback car, yet has the looks of a sports car. It's all rolled into one great package. The particular model I have, the 'Megane Sport Alize 1.6 16V' is probably the best model to get, I strongly recommend it. She has all the conveniences of the lower models (Even the lower spec models have a lot of features), and has a few extras, like alloy wheels, bucket-seats, C.d. player!
