Renault Clio (1991-98): ... L-reg clio 1.4 RT was purchased from a friend of friend who I trusted for £500. Averaged size hatchback, 1.4 so nippy unless laden with 3+ passengers/luggage. Good fuel consumption, up to 350miles per fuel tank. Generally a good little car. Background I brought this car as a cheap replacement for my first run-around. The clio is comfortable car for short/medium journeys, seat suck u in (with their funky patter...

... first car was a green 1999 T Reg Renault Clio RN Grande 3 door, it was a great little car, but then 3 weeks later it was written off after being in quite a bad crash, luckily even though i was hit in the drivers side i wasn t hurt at all not even a bruise, so it s definatley well built. It was because of its apprent durability i choose to buy another Clio after my first being written off, the one i have now is exactly the same as the one i had previously, but blue and with only 40,000 on the clock. I mainly use this car for nipping around town, to and from work and college ocassionally i use it for longer trips and it has never let me down. Being a young male studen...

... mileage... There is a design problem in the engine which retains water/condensation near the coils killing the strength of the spark. I have Nippon Denso coils(my other car is a Toyota and I don t think these parts fail), which I do not suspect as the core problem of occasional sometimes continuous misfiring. I removed the coils myself (simple screw driver set tool) and found out that regularly the plugs where being exposed to moisture mysteriously accumulating in the bore where the coil fits. The design of the bore itself creates condensation or acts as a receptacle to water droplets. Renault should see into this problem as it makes your car feel like an old tech car....

... just didn’t have the money. I looked about on the Auto Trader and since I didn’t really have £9000 to go buy a new car I opted for a second hand one, hopefully that is until I graduate. Anyway, I have always been quite into my cars and having a friend who works at a garage I asked some advice on what cars usually had the most faults and which were going to save me on money. I was recommended the Renault Clio, which I have always liked anyway. I went to a used car dealer who had a number of Clio’s and he sounded trustworthy enough and said that they always tend to pass their MOT’s fine and don’t have a lot of major problems with them. I paid and was soon out on the road....
