“ Exec 5 Door Hatchback „
I had a V8 Rover SD1 years ago whilst at college. Bought very second hand this was the biggest mistake I've ever made in a car. From the outset it was very unreliable, every time I took it out something seemed to go wrong with it. Fuel consumption averaged about 18mpg and boy did it rust well. These cars were launched in 1976/77 as an executive car, powerful and well specified they looked like a real match for the BMW 5 series. However reliability and quality problems soon cast a shadow over this car. It suffered the same fate as so many other Austin Rover models, mediocre quality and poor brand image led to falling sales and very low resale values. This led to the downfall of this car. It was hardly fit to cary the Rover badge that had graced it's predesessors the P6 and 3500TC, these were quality executive cars that had a good reputation.
