Advantages: Good sized large hatch/saloon

Disadvantages: Too old

Rover have improved a very old model that they acquired from the Honda car company with a change in styling and improved driveability. However, the 45 is a very old model in terms of shape, which in its day was the class of the field. Therefore, replacement of the model would not have been far off under BMW. However, with the sale of Rover to the Phoenix Group, this is very unlikely. This is a shame as the 25 and 75 have been given the thumbs up by a large variety of motor experts, including Top Gear. Although the car is good, the dashboard is still in the early '90's, and the front looks awful with a grille, just 'stuck' onto the bonnet. If it were to have a reshape like the 25, it would sell and have a bit more personal character, rather than this dull image.

I am an engineer at Rover and I have to point out a few things about your opinion. Firstly we did not acquire the design from Honda - it was a joint project from concept design, it was then split in terms of production methods. 45% of the car is carry over from the old Rover 200 also made in collaboration with Honda. 20% of the 45 is solely Rover with no input from Honda at all. Secondly although the car looks 'old mannish' I suggest you drive one, you may be pleasantly suprised. The 45 has had a revamp like the 25 twin headlights etc, I agree about the grille on the bonnet (incidently it is now and integral part of the bonnet not stuck on) but different design houses were responsible for the 25 and 45 revamps so they will look different.
