And why wouldn't you want a Jag S type. I can't help but get the feeling that this car has been aimed at the Jag wannabes out there.

The engine performs nicely and certainly gives you what you need when you need it. And boy is it quiet. the car that I test drive was so perfectly quiet so could get a baby to sleep in no time.

In terms of comfort and features this car hits the mark nicely. The leather seats are exquisite and the console makes you feel at home instantly.

If you're considering this car on looks take it for a drive and begin to consider it on performance.

The only thing I have going against it is the rover name. who knows how long they'll last and as such you really have to consider re-sale value and image. If these don't bother you or you feel they're not issues then I'd recommend them hands down.

A Jag S-type is not only more to buy but more to run, the interior in the S-type is nowhere near as good. The drive is not as smooth (the 3L is a rough engine).

As for residuals, early S-type were prone to some quality issues and as such the residuals have suffered.
