Advantages: Classy, Quick, Economical and well built
Disadvantages: Ride
I have just purchased a Saab 9-3 SE 2.0T 2001/51 after looking at Golfs, Passats and A4s it was all down to price and value for money at first. That was until I drove the 9-3, WOW!
I felt like I was in one of the Saab's fighter jets, yes just like the advert with dash all lit up like a Christmas tree. At first I was gentle with her getting use to the controls etc, then a quick squirt of the loud pedal and we were off. I thought I had made a mistake with the vehicles details and purchased a HOT (High Output Turbo 205 BHP)! This 9-3 was to smooth to be a HOT and judging by the average miles per gallon on the computer (37.9) it must have been a LTP.
The main safely reason for choosing the 9-3 over its competitors is that proper 3 point mounted rear seat belts are fitted as stand, which is a must with child as lap belts are not safe. The car is very very solidly built with doors making a nice deep sound when closed.
The car looks and feels classy, but very practical at the same time, here are some of my feeling:
9-3 Plus Points:
• Multiple air bags with pre-tensioned seat belts
• Huge Boot
• 3 Point rear belts
• Comfortable and adjustable seats
• Great Engine (quiet)
• Smooth Gearbox
• Solid Feel
• Great Fuel Consumption for a large car
• Class
• Power
9-3 Negative Points:
• Dashboard a little dated
• Having to press twice to unlock all 4 doors
• Ride a little harsh on country lanes
9-3 LPT SE Vehicle Speciation:
• 2.0 Litre 4 Cylinder 16 Valve Engine producing 153/185 BHP
• 5 Speed Gearbox
• LPT Turbo (Light Pressure Turbo)
• ABS
• 16" Alloy Wheels with 205 tyres
• Leather (Option)
• 4 Electric Windows
• Climate Control
• On board computer
• 3-Point rear seat belts
• Air bags
• Cruise Control
• Lit Sun Visor mirrors
• Lockable Glovebox
• Remote Central Locking
• Remote Alarm
• Electric Boot Release
Over all, I love the Saab 9-3 it's smooth and quiet cruising on the motorway, the power and the under stated chic compared with the average 3 series and Audis we are surrounded by.
