Advantages: Design/looks...neat and tidy, Economical/Cost.., Drives beautifully
Disadvantages: CRAP Stereo, "Salsa" sticker...looks euuuggghh!
I've had my used Seat for just over 6 months now and have done 6000+ miles in rain, snow, sleet.... the motorway to the narrow mountain roads of North Wales.... So here's what I learnt... Costing me just over £3000 (33K..low mileage) from the Seat dealers, I have got to say it probably wasn't what you'd call a bargain but I do not regret buying it for a second... The GOOD.... Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... so if you like your cutesy, dainty look of the citreon Saxo.... you may find the Seat a tad brutish looking... but it does have a loyal following of people who absolutely love its looks... and it has the biggest Yahoo club membership....I think it looks brilliant... Its got VW overtures but not quite "in your face" that really annoys me about "VW posers".... but under the hood its a VW engine and that cannot be faulted... It runs like a charm.... the 1.4 engine performs really well on the motorway and despite being 5 years old it gives me something like 35 mpg in mixed urban driving... my house-mates' 1yr old 1.1i Saxo gives him less! In wet, snow and sleet... it is really well composed no doubt aided by its wide tyres and despite driving over 400 miles in N. Wales in that record snow fall this winter... I didn't once feel I was going to topple over the edge into the ravine! Other good bits... spacious (cf other small cars..when you're 6ft you need it), comfy seats... not too hard as some motor reviews claimed, Polo-ish interior... if you like minimalism with a dash of style... and an easy to use console, outstanding seating position and all round vision (without having to be a contortionist....Airbag...etc etc. The dealers are absolutely fantastic (Arnold Clark) THE BAD.... Engine Noise!... well it is 5 years old and the newer cars are much better insulated from the engine... but the noise is certainly not too obtrusive... you can still
have a conversation quite comfortably at 70 mph on the motorway...but if you're into listening to every little detail in your music... forget it! Stereo... mines crap...2 speakers suck and they vibrate if you turn the Bass up...not that I do.... good enuf for everyday use though... make sure you put a tape in the player b4 buying the car.... it may chew it up... Rattles and squeaks sometimes...but again within the limits of tolerance. THE UGLY... Not very much can be sited as ugly but... I don't like the indicators and that annoying multicoloured "Salsa" sticker makes it look a tad cress... don't want to remove it because I'm afraid of damaging the paint work! In summary a cracking car which I would highly recommend....

- 13/06/01 Modern Seats (the company also produces the VW Polo) are a means of buying into VW quality for a substantially reduced price; the same applies to the latest Skodas.
As VW uses the same floorpans and basic body styling for all its subsiduary marques, along with engines, you can see just why Seat, which use to produce under average cars based on ageing Fiat designs, is now a marque to seriously consider when acquiring a new or used vehicle. |

- 11/06/01 Neel - I also have the Ibiza 1.4 3-door and I love it. The ride is great, the parts all VW and generally a good little car. I changed my stereo for a blaupunkt and it's worth the investment trust me. Good op and glad to see the Seat's getting more of a following. |
