I bought an Octavia GLX TDI as a replacement for my aging Peugeot. The Skoda was quieter faster and more economical than the 1.9 diesel Peugeot 405 Estate.

The car shares the same floor pan and running gear as the VW Golf and Audi 3 and much of the trim has come straight out of the VW Audi Parts bin, While touring in Germany in 1999 the engine sump cover a plastic dirt shroud became damaged and was replaced by a VW dealer using a VW Part for a Golf and all paid for under warranty by Skoda (UK).

A friend of mine believes that there is a VW part Number on the reverse side of the Skoda Badge! The space in the boot was enormous (bigger than the Peugeot) the only downside was the amount of rear legroom for tall people and the lack of a centre 3 point seat belt.

I no longer have the car as it was written off in an accident last summer. Would I buy another? Definitely if it offered alot more legroom in the rear, I believe the strength of the car saved my life I was hit on the drivers side and flipped onto the roof, okay so I had a brocken pelvis but I survived.

This has been so far the best car I have ever owned (from a selection of Ford Vauxhall Volkswagen Peugeot Nissan and Renault) and I would highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to looking at the new Skoda Montreux when it reaches the showrooms hopefully next year.
