Advantages: small, cheap

Disadvantages: not secure, look wierd

Bear in mind the following if you are thinking of getting a smart car;

Smart cars do not come with spare tyres so if you need a wheel change you will need to get your car recovered to your nearest smart centre.

At the moment there are only 4 smart service centres in the country (this number is due to increase this year). This means if something goes wrong with your car you may need to get it recovered hundreds of miles (depending where you live).

They are not the most secure vehicle. The exterior panels lift off and it is possible to open the doors without too much difficulty. The boot can also be opened form the outside with no difficulty.

Smart vehicles can immobilise themselves if they are exposed to certain radio waves (like those used by emergency vehicles, in otherwords your car could immobilise itself if an ambulance goes past!)

The cars do come with 1 years breakdown cover, which hopefully you wouldn't have to use and also have a warranty. Their website is quite good so definately worth checking if you are thinking of getting one.

Apart from all that they are neat little cars. You won't be able to out much in them but if you just want to tottle about in one then it could be the car for you.

There are much cheaper if you buy them from Europe and also come with much better benefits so shop around!

Take these comments with a pinch of salt - what a load of bunkum! Any tyre fitter will fit a new tyre to a smart - you don't need to go to a smart centre, there are loads of centres now Mercedes Dealers sell them. Most of the panels can only be removed by removing fittings located INSIDE the car first - the rear panel being the exception, but if you take this off you still can't get in the car. Radio waves? Never heard that one from any of the hundreds of smart owners I've come across and the thousands of threads I've read on the owners club website.

Although there are only four official smart car centres in the uk there are other smart car dealers. I live near to two in West Sussex that I know of but there may be more. One being a mile away, the other Fourteen miles. Most tyre suppliers can order in a smart car tyre.
The panels are difficult to remove and it will take an expert upto an hour to remove just one panel.
I have been passed by many emergency vehicles living in a busy town and have never found my car to be immobilesed nor have I ever heard of this theory.

constructive critisism is usefull!
is this true about security? I have had a Smart for 18 months now and didn't know all that. As for cheaper in Europe; this is nor my experience. We go to Germany regulary and I have found both cars and accesories exactly the same price (LHD). I haven't checked if RHD are available in Europe and, if so, if they are cheaper.
