Advantages: Fun, Nippy, Does 50mpg
Disadvantages: Only 2 seats, No spare
It was love at first sight - when I first saw the Smart I had to have one. I know there are many people who share my view, and plenty of others who don't. That's one of the things I love about my car.... It produces such strong reactions. It's more than just a good looking car - the tiny 3 cylinder 600cc engine has more go in it than you would think. The nippy little car can reach speeds of 84 mph - fast enough for me - and is equally at home on motorways, in towns and in the country. The choice between the clutchless manual and fully automatic options means that you can choose how to drive. For control when you need it, the manual option is great. Alternatively in heavy traffic or on long drives, sit back and let the automatic option do all the work. There are people (usually ones who have never had the pleasure of a drive in a Smart) who think that your comfort must be compromised by the size of the car. Far from it - there is more leg room than many family saloons, and the Smart comes with many added extras as standard. Every Smart comes with driver and passenger air bags, ABS and traction control for your safety. Other options include air conditioning, side airbags, heated seats and CD multi-changer. It also comes in a range of wacky, and also more sensible, colours. All this in a small car? It also comes with one free bonus which you don't get in many cars under £10000 - FUN!! The Smart can make you smile like nothing else I know. You might think I'm overlooking all the bad points. Have I ever had any problems? It has never broken down and I have never had to use my can of emergency tire weld (the Smart has no spare). I know people who have, but then nothing's perfect is it? I, on the other hand, have done over 17000 miles in my Smart, without a hitch, and wouldn't give it up for anything. Ok, so it might be wierd looking, and it might only have 2 seats. But I'm
happy. Love it or hate it, you can't help but notice the eye catching Smart.

- 26/02/02 I was hoping to read more specifics about your cabrio spec, as opposed to general observations. I have a passion coupe but keen to get a cabrio for my girlfriend. What's the noise level like? |
