A friend of mine has a Subaru Impreza 2.0GX and he kindly lets me drive it now and again(well he has
no choice actually!!) and as a motoring enthusiast heres my general review of the vehicle;

Followers of the motor sports scene will be well aware of the Subaru Impreza's sporting pedigree.For the uninitated,the Impreza saloon has both survived and starred in the sport that really puts technical toughness to the test:rallying.

Aside of the renowned engine durability-Subaru have scooped many UK customer satisfaction awards-the Impreza saloon doffs its design cap to long running World Rally successes.

Aggresive,wide-and-low three-box styling,strong lines and large,blistered wheel arches,plus the obligatory rear boot lid spoiler,all combine to mark the saloon's distinct sporting stance.

With all-wheel drive thrown in,there's plenty of traction to match the action(hey that ryhmes,oops sorry).That sophisticated four-wheel drivetrain joins the all-strut suspension and a low centre of gravity to produce incredible roadholding and stabilty.

With maximum tyre grip on tap,the Subaru can skate surefootedly into corners at the kind of speed that leaves not only your hair standing on end(not mine,i dont have much),but probably most of the saloon car competition,too.

Okay,the non-turbo 2.0 GX five speed manual version im basing my review on isnt anything like as hot as the out and out performance available in the six-speed 2.0 WRX Sti saloon-an amazing 140mph machine that can rocket to 60mph in just over five seconds-but,all the same,it gives a great all-round drive.

A gutteral growl is the trademark Subaru engine noise,with the £15,750 2-0GX,like all Impreza's,employing the flat-four all-aluminium engine layout.Maximum power is 124bhp,with top speed 118mph and 60mph reached from standstill in 9.8 seconds(or so im reliably imformed by the owner!)

It certainly powers nicely through third and
fourth gears before changing up to cruise in fifth,but the benefits of all-wheel drive dont really extend to the petrol pumps.Around 30mpg from all driving conditions is about the best you'll do with fuel tank size at just 50litres,fill ups are frequent.

Boot space is better than ever,but it's still a boot and not a hatch.Chair comfort is good,but even tall drivers in the supportive seat tend to use the crank-up height adjustment lever to improve the view out of the low-lying Impreza.

The 2.0GX has four electric windows,powered door mirrors,and air conditioning amongst the refinements,and ABS braking enhances the very safe ride.

So if you want to get from A to B,the all wheel drive Impreza is the saloon to satisfy your needs.

Subaru Impreza 2.0GX,£15,750.Impreza saloon four model range from £15,750 to £27,495(2.0WRX Sti).Estate versions are also available.
