Subaru Impreza P1
Advantages: Better than a new Impreza, more of a go-kart feel.
Disadvantages: Suffer from engine problems if now looked after properly
I've owned my Impreza now for around about 2 years. So this review comes from experience.
When I purchased my P1, it has 27,000 miles on the clock and it cost £10k in 2007.
There are plenty of P1s with 70,000 - 100,000k miles on the clock for around the £5k mark but I wouldn't consider one of these unless they have been very very well looked after, FULL service history from either Subaru or a Subaru specialist.
These vehicles do suffer from the bottom ends failing, you'll be lucky to find one that hasn't had a rebuild. Be warned, it can cost from £5k upwards for a rebuild.
A simple remap of the vehicle costing around £500 can improve the fueling problem that causes this issue. Also, only ever run these cars on Shell V-Power, dont risk using the Tesco 99 stuff.
I used to use my P1 as an everyday car and it wasn't too bad. I now use it for 5 months of the year and it's pretty much only taken to shows and events.
They're very quick and you'd be better off with a bog standard one, lots have been modified which in my opinion is not nessecary. They are quick enough as they are.
Brilliant all round car. Best Impreza you can buy, better than any of the new softer Imprezas.
Summary: Excellent car for summer weekends.
