Being stuck for a car recently I was given one of these Suzuki Altos. I was skeptical about the car at first as it had been sitting around without a wheel turned for nearly a year and was covered in over a foot of snow when I picked it up. Despite this after attaching a freshly charged battery the car started first time and the snow was melted off the windows and bonnet within half hour of just ticking over.
The one problem I have found with this car is that the windscreen freezes on the inside and it dosen't have to be extremely cold for this to happen.
The car drove wonderfully with no problems after picking it up and went through an MOT first time, with the only advisory being the missing left wing mirror.
With a little 1 litre engine this car is very economical and will do 100 miles on £10s worth of unleaded fuel. Being cheap there is quite a bit of road noise inside the car, although despite the interior being very basic it is very comfy over a couple of hours say at least in the front anyway. The back seats leave a lot to be desired leaving very little leg room for anybody other than a child. Then again what more could you expect from such a small car. The boot is modest but will hold around a fortnights shopping as well as the spare wheel and jack in the wheel well.
Reliability wise this car has never let me down except for small things like both the front windows have jumped the runners and dissapeared into the door at least once each. Mechanically I cannot fault this car it has started every morning so far in the cold and drove everywhere I've asked of it. My main problems with this car lay with the cheap build quality, which makes it feel like a bit of a "baked bean tin". Looks wise the car is neither ugly or pretty just functional.
Overall I would have been dissapointed if I had spent money on this car especially from new due to the cheap build quality. However the mechanical reliability and fuel economy suggests this car does what it is meant to do. Provide east cheap transport at low initial lay-out and since it has impressed me so much in every other way i'm only knocking off one star for the build quality.
