Advantages: Performance!!; handling; features; looks
Disadvantages: Road noise; stiff ride at times.
I bought the T-Sport version of the Celica a couple of years ago. I wanted a sporty car, which would satisfy my wallet as well as my driving needs - the Celica met my expectations.
The T-Sport version delivers 189 Bhp from the same 1.8 litre engine as the standard version. This means that you have go through the rev range to get the most out of the car. On mine, once you hit 6,000rpm, the fire in the belly kicks like a turbo boost, and the engine go right up to 8,000rpm and beyond. You have to drive the car like this to get the most out of it - but that's how the engine was built.
Looks: Very pleasing - some find it too angular, but I find the lines well thought out. I think this car appeals in design to both male and female audiences. I have the car in Thunder Grey, and it looks great. Many Celicas also come with rear spoilers, but nothing "too in your face". It is a car that's modded by many, and the bodykits are easy to find.
Inside: OK. Two-tone leather often comes in the T-Sport version. The trim is a bit plastic, but probably true of a lost of Japanese cars. Lots of features: climate control, a/c, front fogs, etc. Rear seats are bucketed - passengers have complained to me about legroom - it is a 2+2, but the space in the back is a bit limited, however it is a sporty number after all!!
Driving: Driving position is low, but I like it - it adds to the sporty feel. One thing I would say about the driving is that the road noise is quite loud compared to other sports cars. The engine noise is loud also when you rev it through the full range....but I like this! The ride is a little hard with the sports suspension, so be prepared for some jolts when you go over bumps in the road. Other than this, the seats are comfortable, and the driving is responsive. And it's quick!! 0-60 in about 7 seconds. No encouragement necessary.
Reliability: I haven't had any problems with mine since I got it - I keep it serviced regularly and it's a Toyota, so it won't fall apart like other makes.
Overall: A great little car - people like to own it because of its looks and heritage. A great drive if you allow minor faults in the comfort zone.
Summary: A good-looking car to thrill.
