Advantages: mid engined, rear wheel drive
Disadvantages: can get through tyres quickly
The mark 2 MR2 is a lovely looking mid engined, rear wheel drive, two seater sports car. I had a MR2 GT for two and half years and in that time I never once had it breakdown or fail to start. It is a sporty little car with a lovely engine sound which really makes it sound the part from within the cabin. The running costs on the car are surprisingly reasonably with the exception of tyres. Depending how enthusiastically you drive it is possible to get through a pair of rear in about 5000 miles, however if you are a more careful owner they should last for more that 10000. Obviously with it being rear wheel drive there is alot of fun to be had on roundabouts and this may be the reason I only managed that many miles on one pair! The boot looks small but you can get a surprising amount of stuff in it and it will more than easily be big enough for 2 for a weekend. I even managed a week camping in a tent on just a bootful! People may say its impractical but thats because they havent tried it, after all how often do you actually have more than 2 people in your car? The handling is very good and has proved its worth a number of times on castle combe racing circuit! For the MR2 owner there is also a good club called the mr2 drivers club which has many members, a very good monthly magazine, dealer discounts and a reduced insurance scheme. Overall, a MR2 is an excellent little sports car which second hand is an absolute bargain, and i'm currently looking for another one to buy. The only reason I sold my old one is that I decided I needed a bit more power and am now looking for a Turbo!

- 15/10/00 True there is IMOC, like you say is very useful and I frequently post on their egroups forum. Another good website is www.mr2.com (imocs international website) and www.mr-2.com (a guy who collects mr2 images, alot of mr2 images!) |

- 14/10/00 By all means grab a turbo but test drive the new roadster as well, I think you'll be surprised! |

- 13/10/00 And not only is there the MR2 Owners Club, there is also IMOC, the International MR2 Owners Club. The UK region can be found at www.egroups.com/groups/im oc-uk and there you will find more technical information than you can shake a stick at, as well as advice on modifying, servicing, and running your MR2... |
