Advantages: Funky, Good Mileage, Well built

Disadvantages: expensive for a small car, (my) dealers wouldn't move on price, noise on motorways

I think that I pretty much fell in love with Toyota's Yaris as soon as I saw it, so, it was no wonder that after looking at all of the other alternatives (small cars) I decided to get one.

Whilst they are not cheap, and our two local dealers would not move a £ on the price, you do get a fair bit for your money. For starters the 'shell' is not small - and there are dozens of hidden extras that you don't get with a Ford KA, for example, under the passengers seat there is a drawer! There are cubby holes all over the place and two glove boxes! The back seats are AMAZING - they slide back and forth by just pressing one bar - and so it is VERY EASY to make your boot bigger or smaller (and therefore legroom smaller or bigger).

Another thing that you don't get on many basic entry level small cars are electric windows, ABS and PAS, on-board computer (although not very useful and as far as I can tell not ever too accurate). Lets not knock it - the mileage/consumption is great. I get 40+mpg for what is mostly dual carriage way driving - where the official statistics are 45 ish - but what is annoying is that the on-board computer is always telling me I am getting 50+ - when I know I am not...

Perhaps something that you may not like is the '3D' Display Centre "holographic display pannel" placed in the middle of the dashboard. Everything is digital - there are no dials anywhere! Personally I love it - but understand that many people do not. I guess it is just one of those things that you will either love or hate when you first see it. You know what I am talking about.

I've read other oppinions on the site here - and have to agree on one major thing. The colour options. Since a lot of the oppinions here were written Toyota has addressed this matter - and introduced a few more colour options (including one called 'Cactus Green' that is now growing on me!)

DISADVANTAGES:
Noisy on motor
ways
No Alarm as standard (and it costs a bomb to get fitted)
Starting price and non-negotiability of my dealer experieriances (they also wouldn't even throw anything in for free - claiming it was 'Europeanly Priced')

ADVANTAGES:
Everything else - insurance (and tax) is cheap, mileage is good, after sales is good and dealer services are VERY cheap - beating Kwik Fit by far!!!
There's a whole toyota lifestyle out there - jusyt waiting for you to get involved.

If you are still not convinced then I can only suggest you get yourself down to your local dealer and arrange to test drive one! There is no point at looking at photos on the net - you don't get the full picture (even with Toyota.co.uk's 360* tour.

Welcome to the club! I'd back you up about the noisy on motorways bit, having done a 300 mile round trip last weekend. The Yaris definitely prefers A and B roads. On the other hand it managed well over 40 to the gallon (and thats with the larger engine) so I can't grumble.

I could never live happily with that speedometer or the unpleasant noisiness (having had a test drive about 18 months' ago).

The Yaris is a belter of a small car.
