Advantages: Good MPG, Quick, Driving Position
Disadvantages: Comfort
The time came to change cars. The M reg Rover 416i was lossing money had over fist. The car choice was massive, we hunted high and low. Ford, Fiat, Vauxhall, Nissan you name it we looked at it. Then we walked in Toyota not really expecting to find a car. We walked in sat in front of the salesman and asked the question 'What small cars do you have ?' He asked how much would you like to spend ? Approximatley £10,000 give or take a few thousand. He said we have a new model, The Yaris. At first it looked kind of strange, a very bold out set. He stated the car is a 1.0 litre. My experience of 1.0 litre cars is 'Oh look we are almost at 60.....', Slow, unresponsive, never get anywhere very quickly. We got in and he started the engine. First impression, quite - Where is the speedo ? In the Middle was this futuristic console with projection display. Slightly strange, but very clear to look at. He advised us to take it for a test drive. We took it out and I tried sticking my foot to the floor. We shot off at rate of knots. The speed of acceleration for a 1.0 litre engine was increadable. we took it onto the nearby motorway to give it a good hammering, well it was a test drive! The car got to 70 with no problem. The speed limit would have been easily exceeded by a good 25 mph! After 20 minutes we were hooked. The average tank full does approx 325 miles, but if your a modest driver you'll easily get 400 miles out of the 10 gallon tank, with enough fuel to get to the petrol station. The fuel economy is great at 70 anything higher and you start to loss it. At 56 it is unreal. We did 100 miles the other day and had 52.6 mpg on the motorway. Not bad in summer holiday weekend traffic. The boot space is increaed by the sliding rear seat. The upright seating gives good all round visiblity. However the seats do become slightly hard after 2 hours non-stop at the wheel. We have had the Car for a year now, and most o
f the friends and family who have been in it wants to buy one. It really does sell itself. We have made it look sporty by having all the trims put on it. And the air conditioning is great in both summer and winter. Toyota have really cracked the small car with this one!
