I bought one of these a while back now, having lived near the Fernhurst TVR garage for most of life I saw these cars arrive on the forecourt shiny and new and LOUD! After selling my other car I discovered that I could whack £10k down as deposit and finance the rest of a Griff '88 reg. (This was in 1992)

After much searching, well not really I went in and they had a s/hand green with full leather trim, new tyres and after an hour of filling in finance forms the car was mine to pick up the follwoing day.

The guys at fernhurst are quite fond of the customers and they warned me about the power being deliverd to the back wheels both dry and wet weather, what the charactersitics of the car and when its likely to misbehave and general tips...perversely there was a wreck in the workshop where the owner parked it into a tree - not pretty.

Driving the thing took a lot of getting used to and even though I bought mine in the summer months any hint of dew on the car in the morning and sodding thing refused to start unless I had prayed to god, vishnu, Buddha, Rex Harrison and the rest and slain a lamb in honour of the god of starter motors.

When it got going the noise and burble burble braaaaaaap soon killed any ideas of burning the car to the ground.. its fast its raw and handles well enough unless you really get stcuk in and make it work..which is good fun..

But the whole package just simply fails in every way, exceot when everything comes together at once - imagine an orchestra all out of time and then suddenley it comes togther and perfection! Then it goes back to being crap for 99% of the time.

What went wrong was constant and beyond irritating, oil decided it liked the car park in tescos so much it wanted to stay there, thus leaving me stranded.

The electrics amused themselves by cutting out, shorting and most entertainly making all warning lights chime in at once..

Repeated trips to the garage
presuaded me that this baby had to go and fast. The guys at Fernhurst were sympathetic but being sales people claimed it was part of the charm..which was nice considering I had lost approx £5k to the charm of TVR.

Looking back now I think that for all its problems I still love the way it looks, sounds and look forward to getting another TVR which has ironed a few of the gremlins that have been around before..

An enjoyable review to read. :-) I wonder if you had the service history of this one since you had so many niggles.
