Disadvantages: Unreliable

Once passing my driving test in April 2005 i had a M reg vauxhall corsa given to me by my brother until i could afford to buy myself a new car. the car was mechanicially sound, until about october time of 2005, been in steady job, i decided to buy myself a brand new corsa from my local Lookers Vauxhall garage in st helens. i bought myself a silver 1.0 design on a 05 plate.

I owned the car for about two weeks when i was driving along and when changing from 3rd to 4th i heard a loud crunching sound, i checked the clutch was all the way down, which it was and afterward i could not get the car into 4th gear. i drove the car back to vauxhalls, who imformed me that a spring in the gearbox had failed and damaged the gears. upon requesting a courtesy car while mine was been repaired, they informed me that they could not give me a car due to the fact that i was under 21 and was not covered to drive any of their courtesy cars. i found this insulting and informed them that if they did not give me a car i would not be back to collect my own and will cancel the direct debit for the car. all of a sudden they found a way to give me one. i got my own car back 2 days later with a new gearbox fitted.

About 2 weeks after, i noticed than when i applied the brakes, there was a loud clunking sound, so once again i took the car back to vauxhalls, who informed me that the exhaust was loose and that the steering rack needed replacing. i once again requested a courtesy car and went through the same rigmorol as i went through the first time, eventully i got a car.

After the car was returned i prayed that it was going to be right this time.

About 11pm one night i was returning home from my girlfriends in northwich driving on a dual carriageway at 60mph, i pressed the brakes and the pedal went straight to the floor and the worst fear had happened, the brakes had failed! i managed to stop the car using the handbrakes and the gears, once stopped i phoned the AA who came out to recover the car, by this time the brakes were working again, but two massive grooves were missing from the front brake discs.

The next morning vauxhalls came and picked the car up and within 10 minutes of them picking it up they phoned me up to inform me that the brakes were perfect on the car, eventually i sent the car back.

Summary: Very Disappointed

Very annoying that you were considered too young for a courtesy car, but obviously they didn't think you were too young to take your money off you.
