Express Review on Vauxhall Astra Mk III (1991-98)

I've bought an estate 1 of these for work last month (£300). Its nearly 15 years old and it is not much to look at but very reliable. Hardly anything wrong with it and should pass the mot with no major problems. No power steering but its not that heavy - if anything I've found smaller cars heavier to steer (esp the mk3 Ford Fiesta I started learning to drive in). No electric windows/central locking either - just a simple no nonsense car.

A very tough reliable work horse. I'm well pleased with it even at its age now

I have an Astra Gsi Mk3. I love it! Its a 2litre 16v and its the redtop engine.I was told that the ecotec engine isnt as good/fast. I love the way this car comes as standard and all i have had to do was put nice 6 spoke 17inch alloys on and a stainless steel scorpian full exhaust on (cat back.) I chose a twin exhaust as thats what comes on ...  Read the complete review

I have had my 1.4LS for about 18 months now and think I rushed in to it. I was driving an old Orion before which I rolled in to the showroom with a blown head gasket and rolled back out with my shiny new Astra. The car won't win no awards for its looks but isn't the ugliest car on the road. It's comfortable to drive and fits ...  Read the complete review

Eany, meany, miny, moh! Decisions, decisions, hmm Time came to register another car from my stock to use as a run-a-round, for deliveries and to take home at night if I couldn’t be bothered to walk the half-mile to my house. My eyes ran over the various colours and makes of car I had, and then Wallop! ...  Read the complete review

hhmmm, what do i say about my astra sport? it isn't a bad looking car, but let's be realistic, the medium hatchback class was never really awash with jaw-dropping flair. my previous car was a civic esi, ok, bland, but twice as good as this astra. open the bonnet and the engine looks though it shouts ...  Read the complete review

The Vauxhall Astra is the stalwart of British motoring it's been through four revisions and more facelifts than Michael Jackson, it isn't particularly exciting or good looking yet millions of us have owned one at one time or another. Somewhere out there is my Astra mark III, yep it's true I owned a rather dull, slow ...  Read the complete review

So, why don't dooyoo have a place other than the 'other vauxhalls' for me to put a review of the Vauxhall Astra? Well, it doesn't matter. The Astra is a revelation compared with the old model it replaced, and yet it still goes by the same name; I guess becuase people are femiliar with it. So just how much better is the ...  Read the complete review

OK, so they are not exactly breath taking to look at. Being one of the UK's most popular medium hatchbacks means you will see the Vauxhall Astra MK3 alot. And you probably don't even notice. But surely there has to be a reason for their popularity?? The first MK 3 Astras were made in 1991, J reg. In 1995 (M) they were ...  Read the complete review

I have been driving a turbo diesel powered astra for just over a year now. Coming from a background of fast fords, i must admit it was a difficult transistion. Having to travel a long distance to work each day the only option was to sell the petrol guzzler and opt for a fuel saving diesel. What really attracted me to this car was the ...  Read the complete review

Vauxhall Astra Mk III (1991-98): an amazing 135+ in an astra (127 words)

Having had three different astras in four years, first a 1.4 two door, then a 1.7 turbo diesel ls and finally a 1997 1.6 arctic. For reliability and generally running around the astra is brilliant. We travel to wales regularly and have clocked up over 135mph (or shouldnt i admit to that?) Comfortable seats, easy to access every part ...  Read the complete review

Ever wondered what the name ASTRA stands for. In my opinion it can be summed up in one word QUALITY. I have had an astra for two years now and it was the first proper nearly new car that I have bought. I have had 5oo quid metros and stuff while I was a student but now Im in the real world of work I got a real car. This has been an absolute ...  Read the complete review

I have just changed my 1.4 Astra Estate, nearly 60,000 miles and 5 years after buying it new. It was always reliable (contrary to some reports I have read), economical to run (35mpg) and to service. Performance is best described as adequate. The bodywork survived the time very well with only one small rust-spot. The Estate version is ...  Read the complete review
