Advantages: Reliable, comforatable, well equiped, good cruiser, spacious, good range of engines, economical, costs very little to run. Disadvantages: TD could be more powerful for when heavy laden.
We are currently on our 4th Cavalier diesel in 11 years, and in my humble opinion, it is one of the best cars available. The post August '92 1.7 diesel turbo intercooler is vastly superior to the older plodder of a 1.7 D. Our current machine is a '95 GLS TD, which is in excellent order. We have clocked a O-60 time of under 10 secs, which for an 82 bhp engine is quite impressive. The GLS has such luxuries as Elec front windows, mirrors, ariel, manual sunroof, RDS stereo and many more features. I know that it has a rep image, but for a rep that isn't so bad, is it? On reading the commentary written on this opinion, I have decided to add to it some extra info. Problems that can be found in Cavaliers are water leaking into the boot, if the car is on eof the early models, and of course the old Vauxhall plague of the front suspension being weak, and suseptible to breakage. This latter problem has been rectified, with strengthening in most cars. While the Cavalier will not give you sports car like handling or ride, neither will it give you the impression of driving a tub, as was the case of a Passat estate we had a number of years ago. Quite a bumpy ride over rough surfaces, but that is acting on Top Gear info - I have never noticed particularly. All in all, I think the Cavalier is excellent value for money, a very good workhorse able to take a very large milage, but obviously not as advanced as newer cars. Would I buy another one? Only if we ever wear out the old one. Summary: |
