Advantages: Economical, Spaceous, quick
Disadvantages: Main dealers, servicing costs
A year ago i purchased a second hand 1.7TD N-Reg GLS burgundy cavalier from a private AD. It is quite simply the best diesal with a turbo under 2L that i have drive. Given that it is a diesal it does have some serious poke under the bonnet.
Insurance - I believe that mine is a group 8.
Economy - i am currently getting around 550-600 miles to the 60L tank (42mpg) on a mix of long distance and around town, which ain't bad.
Handling - the car feels better under a full tank of fuel, the extra weight helps, the only real problem i found is that it can be a little light on the arse end, escpecially in the weight on a corner!!
Parts availablity - apart from a multitude of dealers (main/backstreet) there are serious numbers of older models in scrap yards everywhere.
The only thing wrong with mine is a slight leak from a seal somewhere in the boot, i am told this is a cavalier trait
But that aside the cav is a sound buy for economy, power, and looks.
