Advantages: Speed good / Handle good
Disadvantages: Colour and maybe the shape
The basics:
The corsa is a great starter car for 17+ with its low litre engines you are sure to get a good deal on your motor insurance. The fual tank can take around 40 litres i think but dont hold me to that, but it can do 28 miles on a £5-£7 depending on how high you rev the car.
What can be done with the car: (mods)
With both the 5DR & 3DR you can modify the car in many ways such as full body kits (Always cool) / Alloy wheels / exhausts / new hoods / spoilers / tints for the windows.
I have already started to modify my car as i already have my new exhaust (Big bore mark II), spoiler and will be kitting some stuff for the engine.
Sound Systems: (Speakers / amps etc)
All/most corsas have a standard 2 30Watt front speakers, which are ok it you dont really like music in your car or just like to have it quiet.
I have installed 120Watt speakers in the front and 240Watt speakers in the back with a amp (boss) and a twine sub. There is something i dont understand with the corsa it has an area for back speakers which i thought there was some under the plasic cover but you can not really fit any sort of speakers in there... unless you can get 7 inch speakers.. you might be able to :)
On the corsa you have room for a pair of small speakers in the door handles very handy these are special types of speakers that give you the high end of the music they are only 2 inch or something.
They do give a great sound to the music :)
The Power: (engine)
The engine is a simple 1.4litre injection engine which allows a top speed of 120-130 mph which is good for the size :)
Its very fast on picking up the speed so do not worry about that.
The Design: (Shape)
Simple if un modified but can look like an old ladies car sometimes i must say but many people are now finding them to be great cars to do up in your own way :)
Inside: (Seats)
Nice, plain and not to bad to look at.
Not alot i can say about the seats but they can be replaced or seat covers can be put over them if you are unhappy..
Outside: (Shape & the little things)
Clean, round, smooth, all the main things you look for in a car ;)
The windows in the 5DR are nice, easy to see all areas of the road and blind spots.
Wheels: (Size etc)
They mainly come with 13inch wheels with a 2-4 inch tyre but i have seen 19inch alloy wheels fitted, but a warning for that watch out for bumps :)
You can fit 15 inch alloy wheels easy with a low tyre depth, cost around £400-£600 depending on what you like and want.
Comfort: (Seats / position of everything)
Well i cant wait for everyone but for me, i like sitting in my car on both long and short travels. Its great if you are in a traffic jam and cant move and the seat can be put back and just rest.
Reliability: (How far will it go)
Well my car is a 1996 model and i had my MOT in jan this year (2006) and the only thing was the rear brakes needed some work on but nothing major in the way of engine parts / safty etc, i know brakes are a safty thing lol.. but the only thing needed to be done was the pads etc, and that was it. Everything else was fine.
The car is great if you keep it in good order, the car is alot of fun to drive and i would consider getting a new model corsa when i can get the money. OW the cost not alot really a good one for £1500-£3000 with full history and mot new + tax disc. A good amount for the car :)
Hope this has helped people understand a bit more about the Corsa. I will keep this review up to date and add more bits from time to time.
Thanks for reading...
Summary: Great car, easy to run, low insurance.

- 06/02/06 Good review - not read many on here from a modders point of view before. Not something I've really got into so far - I tend to chuckle when I hear a loud throbbing exhaust coming up behind me and it turns out to be from a little Saxo or something... ;)
But having said that, I'm itching to spend some money on my motor - need to get some headlight covers, and I'm thinking about how good it'd look with a big spoiler on the back! :) |
