Great first car (Vauxhall Corsa (pre 2000))

Advantages: Cheap to run Disadvantages: Red colour fades in the sun In recent years, the Vauxhall Corsa has become on of the favourite cars for young drivers that have just past their test. The pre 2000 models can be picked up for under a grand and are in the low insurance groups are cheaper then other cars to insure (although any insurance for a young driver cost a fortune). I have a red 1998 1.4i GLS, which is a pretty good model for the price I paid and it drives very well. I would definetly recommend this model for a first time driver, or person that does not drive frequently as they are quite cheap to run. Be wary of pre 1997 models as the range was slightly redesigned then and looks a bit better. The 1 litre engines are not much good, but go for 1.2 or above and you will be fine. Mine starts first time, even on the coldest of mornings which is pretty good for a 11 year old car, and the few repairs I have had to make have been from general wear and tear (new tyres, rusted exhaust). The models with letters seem to be the best (ie GLS, GSi, CD, etc) as these should come with drivers airbag, power steering and electric front windows, and can be picked up for about a grand. I would avoid red corsas, as the colour does tend to fade into a horrible pinkish matt colour, so unless your handy with the T-Cut then defiently stay away from them. Overall, a very good car. Summary: Brilliant 1st car
