Best small car for a tall student (Vauxhall Corsa (pre 2000))

Advantages: Great price, great drive, great inside room.

Disadvantages: Slightly low economy indoor decor

I'm a student who finds having a car very useful. After borrowing my parents escort for several months I decided that I would like to buy my own. I found a second hand Daewoo Lanos for £4500 and so began ringing around for insurance. I'm twenty and male so the lowest insurance that I was quoted was the ridiculous amount of £1500 with an amount of £2500 being quoted.

My parents suggested I looked at new cars. I wanted a small one for the petrol efficiency and so I looked at the new saxos on offer in my local dealers. I found that I was stooped in a ridiculously uncomfortable position in the driving seat (I'm just about six foot tall and quite well built). I also experienced this problem in the Peugeot 106, the Fiat Panda and even the Renault Clio. In exacerbation we nearly didn't visit the Vauxhall dealers. I am glad we did.

The cars were reduced from £8195 to £6795 due to the new model being released and featured an ingenious (yet entirely simple) feature that could raise or lower the driver seat. The arm room was also better than the other small cars I had tried and the interior decor was pleasing. It handled brilliantly in the test drive and still does now.

On top of all this it is one of the cheapest cars to insure, and came with a free year's insurance which I was also able to put my learner driver girlfriend on. It does excellent miles per gallon and is a joy to drive. Although I look forward to other cars in the future (when my cash flow is more impressive) I think that this car is perfect for my current situation.
