Advantages: Cheap to run, Economical, Proven car
Disadvantages: Steamy Windows, Grey Wheelarches, Weak EGR valve
Ive heard some right trash but some of the comments about this great little car are stupid! Firstly the guy who said the Corsa is basically a newer version of the Chevette is talking out of his backside. The Corsa is a newer version of the Nova but with a different body shell. The running gear of a Corsa is virtually identical to that of a Nova but with minor mods.A Chevette on the other hand is a completely different car. There is nothing on a Chevette that is even similar to a Nova or a Corsa. Who said the Corsa gearbox is awful? Obviously you know nothing about cars because the Corsa has a great gearbox.Maybe you should change your jam jars then you can see which gear your selecting? Simply if you want a luxury car that carrys 6 suitcases and has massive legroom the dont buy a small car! For Gods sake, the Corsa is a shopping/town car not a tourer as some of these officemen think. Anyone after a little car to travel around the towns then you cant go wrong with a Corsa. They are economical, reliable and very well built.True, they are not the most comfortable or the most powerful but they do the job they were designed for and they do it very well. There are very few faults on a Corsa. The only ones i can think of at this present time are- Steamy windows-they steam up like mad in cold weather!! EGR valve-Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve is prone to going which will cost about £170 from Vauxhall. Wheelarches fade with UV light-The wheelarches go grey after time but are cheap enough at about £8 an arch from Vauxhall.Make sure you keep them well treated with Bumper Gel and they wont fade at all. Ignore the fools who say the Corsa is a bad car.The Corsa is a proven car and whilst maybe not quite as good as the Nova was in its day,it still beats anything that Ford can put together.Maybe the officemen who call the Corsa would prefer a good old rattling Fiesta with tin can doors and that awful Zetec engine??

- 10/12/02 In my experience Vauxhall is not a reliable make. I have had a Nova and a Vectra and they gave nothing but trouble, The build is particulary poor in my view but I know ppl who love them, its up to the individual. I dont think you should critisize other people views, everyone has one its what the site is about :) Jay |

- 10/12/02 I used to drive one of these and the wheel arches did go an awful grey colour, though it's hardly something to complain about I guess! I didn't discover bumper black products while I drove this car so it always looked a bit faded around the edges! As you say, this is a good car for what it is. Good op. Welcome to dooyoo and I hope you're going to write about the MR2. I just wonder whether you prefer the old or the new MR2's, or whether you like them all. Either way, I'll be interested to read your op :-) |

- 10/12/02 Well, you seem to have identified the main problems of the Corsa B, and having bought one in 1997 (now being run by elder daughter), i am in general agreement. NOT the brightest car, but it has space and (in our case) reliablility and is better than a F***ta, IMHO.
Remember the Chevette was front engine/rear-wheel drive. Also that the 'Nova was called the Corsa on the continent. That is why this model is refrred to as 'Corsa B'. |
