Advantages: Fairly Cheap
Disadvantages: Prone to a few problems - Steering Rack issues.
I am the proud owner of a 1.4Sri Vauxhall Corsa and have been for approximately 18 months. I do around 22,000 miles a year and have been extremely impressed with the car! There are a few common problems which Corsa's can have, among which the steering rack can be problematic, I had to replace mine the week that I bought the car and it cost me approximately £500, although I know I could have bought a re-conditioned one for cheaper. Since I have replaced this rack I have done around 35,000 miles and have had no further problems with the car and have had very little expenditure.
The car is speedy and looks great as it comes with extra's such as a chrome instrument panel, gearstick and handbrake lever, in addition to exterior styling such as 5 spoke alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, SRi badges, Silver seatbelts, chrome door openers etc etc!
Generally the interior is well thought out, with lots of space for storage. The only disadvantage is that the door trims are plastic and have a tendancy to rattle. This can be sorted provided you are willing to be patient and remove the plastic trims and securing it in such a way where the rattling stops!
My main concern when I bought this car was the running costs, as it was a significant upgrade from my last L Reg 1.2 Vauxhall Corsa. I therefore felt it useful to state what costs I typically incur.
The tyres cost me £65-70 each, however I personally go for expensive low profile pirelli's. A budget tyre is sure to be cheaper than this.
Fuel economy is generally fairly good. With todays fuel prices it costs me on average £50 per 350-400 miles.
Servicing costs me around £150 per year, but I do do a lot of miles!
I have had to buy a new windscreen due to a stone chip - this cost me £75.00.
Tax costs me around £60-65 per 6 months, or £110 for 12 months.
I think this is pretty much all the cost that I have incurred.
To summarise this is a great little car, with the benefit of having a sporty, sleek small motor at fairly minimal price! The storage capability is good, the rear seats fold down and I find I can get my bike in the back. At Xmas I managed to fit in three people and a Xmas tree! I can also get a bike rack on the back which is very handy!
Summary: A stylish, smart affordable and reliable car.

- 09/09/09 Good review.
Although fuel economy seems pretty steep when you consider I get an easy 450 to 500 miles out of my 2.0 petrol Accord on £50. |
