Advantages: nippy and cheap to run

Disadvantages: old

I have had five Novas and they have all ran well. The may be old but they are not as slow as you make think. the Nova is a brill car for running about in. They are a great car simply because the insurance is fairly cheap on them which is a great advantage, they are cheap to keep on the road and repair - cos they do need a bit of T L C, but what car doesn't. In my opinion you can't beat a Nova and they are reliable, nippy and smart looking - if your after a cheap car get a nova

Read my opinion, I'll keep it up-dated. The rear wheel arch rust is a problem. You can buy repair sections, but my son did quite a good job with wire mesh and filler from Halfords. Plenty of waxoyl and underseal. It should last this winter. The tracking problems is apparently caused by wear in the various bushes in the front suspension. They would cost about £80 to replace, apparently, plus a dollop of cursing. The best work that we did on the 1.2 Merit was to replace the carburretor - a simple job that really transformed the car. However, my son shelled out for a K&N filter, which was not a good move. The carburreor has now started icing up beacusre this design of filter removes the hot-air heating from the manifold. More of a problem in Scotland perhaps ?

By the way, I've really fallen for the black SR that UI bought last week. I got it for my son originally, but my younger daughter wants to pull rank over him. I'll enjoy it while they fight it out !

I have mainly 950 to 1.2's nothing too flash the main problem i have had is rust over the wheel arches. There have been no major mechanical problems and the only reason i have changed them is because i wanted a change. The tracking does seem to go quite often but this is not hard to fix. Let me know how things go with your Nova's, i just wish that they were still producing them.

As lordpercy says, tell us more ! My son is having sooo much fun with his 1.2 Merit and I will be keeping my Opinion up-to-date as the saga with "The old Tart" continues. What models did you own ? What problems did you (or your friendly Vauxhall Dealer have to sort out ? Come on, tell all ! Thery are great cars and already have a really enthusiastic group, all over the UK, but more recruits are always needed.
