Advantages: character! cheap to run, excellent 1st car!

Disadvantages: slightly rusty, no mod cons.

The little car that I have always wanted to drive came to be in my control about 3 months ago after a successfull driving test. The red Nova, (a deteriorated D reg)had been my mums for 6 years and I never thought it would get to be mine.
However where there's more rust than metal there is more character than any other car.
Yes it is hard to start on cold wintery mornings and it can be a pain to drive, especially as the 'character' refuses to go into 1st unless at a complete standstill. Yet, it goes, most of the time it is fairly cheap (under my mums insurance of course, how could I afford any thing else, I'm a student!) Low tax as it is an old car, petrol well thats a whole other article considering the state of the fuel prices at the moment.
Small cars are perfect for new drivers, the older car perhaps implies more skilled driving (e.g. preventing stalling, believe me a skill I have yet to master completely)
But I could not have a car without a character like my Nova, the engine still runs from A to B and the body work, well although its rusty, ok its a rust bucket, but what's the problem when it gets me around?
My little D reg. Nova, a wonderfull little car. So who needs fuel injection, power steering, metalic paint, shock aborbers, air conditioning, a bit more suspension would be nice, leather seats (lovely)......maybe one day...

Can I suggest that you buy a Haynes Manual (available from Halfors) and have a go at car maintenance ? It is great fun ! Your Nova probably only needs the ignition components cleaned or replaced (plugs, rotor arm, distributor cap) - maximum cost of replacement £22. At the moment, spend £30 on parts and oils at Halfords and get £5 discount !

It is great fun and gives a great sense of achievment.
