Advantages: Very reliable!
Disadvantages: None!
Last month I brought myself a new car but I did not want to part with 'old faithful'. She was a dirty brown Vauxhall Nova 1.1. I had her for 2 years and each and every day, when that key was inserted, she would always start. Come rain or shine, she was very reliable. She was old too. Sporting a 'Y' plate and a few odd rust patches, did not deter her from being the most reliable car I have ever owned. She cost £200 from a relative and she cruised straight through an MOT. She only had 4 gears but her engine was really smooth and clean. She was small inside but there was enough room to do with her what I needed her for. Shopping, taking my son to school and just general running around. She even took us for a weekend break in Taunton, Somerset and it was great seeing all the newer cars on the hard shoulder broken down while my little brown baby was still cruising along. She never needed much maintenance. Just the regular oil, water and tyre check. The 2nd time she had her MOT she needed some welding doing underneath but she still came out with flying colours. Even when I brought my new car I still kept the Nova 'just in case'. Recently, my friends car was involved in an accident and she desperately needed another car so I sold her 'old faithful' for £50. Since she has no longer been parked in the street and people have seen me with my new car they have been knocking on the door asking if they can buy her. I could have sold her 10 times over. No, the new car isn't a Nova and I will write an opinion on her soon to compare the two but when asked I always recommend a Vauxhall for reliability.

- 15/08/01 Novas are great cars. My grandmother got one in 1990. She went to the lake district, cornwall and wales in it. And it never once broke down. When my grandmother died in 1998 I got the car and am pleased to say I still have it. She might be a bit old but she is fairly reliable (unfortunately she doesn't like the rain as my gran never drove when it was raining). A great op. |

- 30/06/01 Nice to hear a fellow former Nova owner getting all misty-eyed. I can relate to that. |
