Advantages: its wheels have never fallen off

Disadvantages: useless aftercare, ropey engines, generally ya better off putting wheels onto your garden shed

Ok now for the tale of wo...

Bought the car in June 1999 with 17500 miles on the clock from a network Q garage, in the first week it develops an oil leak which they should of spotted at the inspection as there was a dodgy gasket in the engine, car runs ok for a while......As I was at that time doing a lot of motorway miles the principle of the car was fine, but the backup and support from the Vx dealers all over is I'm afraid diabolical, in fact, anyone would think that you'd bought a car off of a dodgy back street dealer in south london...

For an example :-

1)Misdiagnosed fault by 3 different dealerships in different chains that there was cambelt noise, in fact it was the aircon pump making the noise

2)3 attempts to fix a dodgy tracking/balancing problem

But the main thing that has really really really really taken the biscuit? Well the cambelt according to the manufacturers guidlines (which this car was always serviced to) is due to be changes at around 70k miles, at 68, on of the tensioners broke, basically writing off the engine, now we're talking over 2k in repairs here, and did I get any support from vauxhall? Did I hell, car was off the road for 3 weeks, as I drive automatics only, and the garages dont have auto courtessy cars I had to hire an Auto car, and basically Vx just didnt give a monkeys left dangley bit at all.....

Basically avoid VX like the plague, their dealerships should have water troughs outside and somewhere to tie their horses as they're COWBOYS........

Expect bills more akin to a jag or a porsche on an elite as well for servicing, its completely crazy.....A lot of parts are also not standard stock for this model and have to be shipped from luton or opel in germany

Vauxhall dealers are no worse than Fiat, Alfa Romeo & Renault in imy expereince in Edinburgh. In other words I would not trust them to sharpen a apir of scissors. Better to find out about your car (and buy one of those stethoscope devices to locate exact location of funny noises) ...

So far we have been lucky with the Corsa we bought in 1997 (run now by elder daughter) and the Astra SRi we bought about 7 weeks' ago.

More info would be good, I agree ....

Welcome to dooyoo. A shame about the car as I have found Vauxhall do well on their higher range cars. Would have liked some info on the car itself. I agree that dealers are not the best of people to deal with for servicing. Enjoy the site. :-)

Useful info about the dealers but not much on the car, it's a shame when dealers don't respect their customers but it's they that lose in the long run.
