We currently own a touring caravan and therefore need a big car to tow it.
We had a Ford Granada Scorpio 2.5TD hatch back. That was a great car until the head gasket blew while we were on our way down to France. We fixed it £2000 less and a lot noisier car. We acquired a dog and having a hatchback isn't the smartest of cars for a dog, so we rung around and came up with options.
We got told that having a diesel does us no joy's while towing, so that ruled out another diesel. With having a big caravan (530cm) we needed a big engine but with a budget so lower than 3.0l. The dog needed space so we needed an estate.
We have usually had a Ford and the executive option that ford have is the Scorpio and the same with Vauxhall they have the Omega. Our current Granada was 94 registration and we wanted to go newer and the look of the Scorpio put us off.
Well that has cut it down. We were left with the Omega, but which model? We were used to having luxury so CDX or the Elite it was.
The elite comes with leather as standard which the CDX doesn't. Both of the models come with a CD auto changer. This I find really helpful on long journeys because having six to ten cd's at the touch of a button is helpful. The CD auto-changer is located in the boot. The Elite and the CDX have a computer onboard which has such options as, trip, range, average speed, and average miles per gallon.
The engine, 2.5 V6 24 valve, as you can imagine, shifts. It is a wonderful engine to tow with, so quiet and effortless. When we chose the car we opted for the manual gearbox, because towing with an automatic puts a lot of strain on the gearbox. You wouldn?t notice having a caravan on the back it?s so smooth.
I recommend any Omega for caravan owners or jus families that enjoy luxury at an affordable price.
