Advantages: No loss of power, even when fully loaded
Disadvantages: No adjustable seat support
I have been driving this Vectra for just a little over 2 years now and it has done over 93,000 miles in that time. As a note to start with, it has had it's correct services every 10,000 miles and i have maintained the oil and injectors per the manual. The largest problem i have had with this car in all this time is a headlight bulb blinked out at around 86,000 miles, but other than that not so much as a splutter. This is an ideal workhorse vehicle for people who require comfort whilst carrying moderate loads. The engine is quietly powerful, although a little louder than the petrol version ( i have driven both ) and accelerates very comfortably even at speed due to its high torque at low revs. I have done everything with this car, carried full loads (five full computer systems + network gear), towed a caravan with full passenger load ( wife and three kids ), done 650 mile round trips on a single day and it still purrs like a kitten. Even more on the plus side is the fuel economy, out of a 60 Litre tank i get over 500 miles, even with the air conditioning switched on. Compare this to around 320 miles on the petrol model, it adds up to a major saving. The overall point is that these are excellent cars if they are looked after correctly.

- 25/10/00 Wow, sounds great - an excellent review. You made a very good point about ensuring that the car is looked after well. Too many people ignore the trequired services. Indeed, with the extended service intervals, I still change the oil and filter on all our family's cars every 6 months or 6,000 miles. |
