Advantages: Versatile, Comfortable, Good MPG
Disadvantages: Brake Calipers
We've had this car for a while now and overall we're very pleased with it.
It's a 7-seater which with 2 older and one young child is a must for us as the little one's car seat caused the other back seat passengers to be cramped in our previous car. The Zafira is smaller than some of the other options we considered, and a bit lower roofed than the Chrysler Voyager which was our other "finalist" when choosing the new car.
We went with diesel for a couple of reasons, importantly it gets more MPG (or better MPŁ) than the petrol version. Also the main driver at the time was diesel powered at work and putting the wrong fuel in our car could prove costly!
The car is used every day for an average of about 2 hours, covering 50 or so miles a day. The MPG varies a little depending on the use of the car, but on average is somewhere just under 40.
One of the things we liked about the car was the flat folding back seats, and the vertical folding middle row which slide right up to the front seats. This makes the car very versatile, covering a general day (one of the back seats up) for space and comfort for the kids, to a 2 seat estate car that has come in very handy for runs to the local tip during our recent house renovation.
The ride of the car is smooth, and considering the purpose of the design, it handles as well as can be expected. Being diesel and heavy it isn't away from the lights super fast, but we've grown out of that anyway. The acceleration from 10-70 is more than adequate.
We've had the car a while now, and it has never once failed to start. The only problems we've had have been on one rear brake caliper which seized and cost a couple of hundred pounds to have repaired. Apparently this is the one common defect on the model, so we are about to have the other side done to avoid being off the road at an inconvenient time.
As with all cars of this type, luggage space is scarce when the seats are all up, but we generally run with at least one seat down so it's rarely an issue.
Overall, we feel we made the right choice as this car is better value for money than most of the competition.
Summary: We'll buy a new one when this one retires.
