Advantages: Reliable, Safe, Fun to drive
Disadvantages: Tiny, tiny boot, No factory fitted alarm, No remote central locking
Although you see WAY too many of them around in my opinion, I love my little Polo. Having had 4 clapped out old bangers nicked in a rather short space of time, I decided early last year that it was time to invest in a decent motor. I was advised by those in the know that a Polo was a cool small car, big enough for me and my kids.
NOT cheap though - but because I'm the kind of person that cannot be bothered to shop around, I wandered off to the nearest VW garage and bought a nice black one (what a typical woman!) at £8000.00. It's S reg 1.4CL, seriously low mileage and in mint condition with a factory fitted immobiliser and central locking. VW have been a bit stingey here - they could have fitted an alarm and remote central locking - the VW garage quoted me £400.00 to add it on!
Now I have never had a new (or nearly new) car before so this was a bit of a new experience for me. The interior was lovely, understated in a classy way and comfortable although the dull dash on the passenger side is disappointing - only a little pocket thing big enough for a pen and the glove box is tiny all because of the airbags so I shouldn't complain about that I guess. Not much room in the back but thats where the kids and their short legs go and there is certainly enough room for them to be comfortable - and after all, it IS a small car. It is seriously solid - you feel safe enough in it and confident that in the event of a crash you are well protected. Accelerating is average to good but this isnt a car to race around in. The one serious complaint I have is the boot space - its TINY. If you are considering buying a Polo and have a pushchair - MAKE SURE YOU CHECK IT FITS FIRST. I had to buy a new pushchair because the old one was too big! Also, it can be a bit thirsty - maybe because of the 1.4 engine or the fact that I only do fairly short distance journeys in it but I do find myself pulling into the garage a bit more often than I would like!
I am v
ery happy with the reliability - it has never broken down and I haven't had to have anything replaced (fingers crossed) so far.
Overall, a lovely car, it looks good, its fun to drive, reliable, built to last and safe. Excellent for families (with small pushchairs!)but not for trips on holidays with the suitcases because they won't fit in.
