I am a blonde woman of a ‘certain age’ who has never owned her own car, despite having passed my test over ten years ago. Well, I live in a city centre and am able to borrow the old mother’s Toyota whenever I need it. Last year I decided to take the plunge into the exciting world of car ownership! I sent my lovely fella off with a short shopping list … “I want a little car that is cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap to run, cheap to get spares for”. Bless his cotton socks … he found me a lovely little red car that I not only fell instantly in love with, but that satisfied all my requirements and more. The new ... Read the complete review

My Polo was the fanciest of the Mk2s, a 1989 Coupe S, with its 1272cc 55bhp (!!!!!) engine. I mock, but it was decently fast - keeping up with much more powerful cars was a doddle. Thank the very light weight (720 kilograms) for that. The 0-60mph time is around 12 seconds which isn't spectacular but the torque gives it some shove in the sprints that really matter (i.e. powering up hills and overtaking). Economy is great too, with 40mpg+ possible even with my exceptionally heavy right foot. Also a part of the Coupe S package is lightly tinted windows, 13-inch "Hockenheim" alloy wheels, rev counter, sports seats with Golf GTi-wannabe check trim. Mine ... Read the complete review

I bought the Match version of the polo fox about 3 months ago off EBAY. Not something I would normally do but for £400 it was worth the risk. The Polo of this vintage (1994) is getting on a bit but with only 52500 miles its still breaking in. Reliability wise its a great car, but then most VW's are. Nothing seems to ever break on it that will actually stop you driving. If you need to fix anything its easy as the car is very simply put together thus easy to take apart. My most expensive part was a rotor arm for the price of £3.84. A must for me on a car like this is to go straight to your garage and replace the sparkplugs, air filter, ... Read the complete review

My 1010cc Volkswagen Polo, only slightly younger than me, has got to be one of the loves of my life. Before getting it, I would have found the idea of being so attached to a metal machine totally daft, but this little car has character. I got it as a first car - 100% ideal. Firstly, like practically all Volkswagens it is amazingly reliable. It has NEVER ONCE failed to start ( apart from the time I left the lights on by accident and drained the battery ). It's small engine means that it gets me wonderfully from A-to-B without a problem - I can't go boy-racing, I can't overtake Jaguars - but who cares? I want a car to get me to places, and the Polo does. ... Read the complete review

my first car was a d reg v w polo called peter. He is the best car that i have ever had the pleasure of owning. I still miss him now! I got this car in 2001 shortly after passing my test for 305 pounds and he was worth every penny. I wanted a car and had no preference as to what it was and i answered an add ending up with this. I am soo pleased that i did - it had a mind of its own. Some of the best features were driving on a motorway at 70 miles an hour and the car getting slower dispite me having my foot flat to the floor and eventualy coming to a stop on the hardsholder. I would wait 5 mins re start and away we would go. Another ... Read the complete review
