The Volvo 740 seires has always been seen as an 'old-mans car' and as a brick. I have owned a Volvo for a number of years and have had volvos in the familiy for at least twenty. Currently i have a Volvo 740 Turbo on a G/H reg. and I have found it to be more that the old-mans car that it is said to be. It has a 2.3 litre 4 Cylinder Turbo charged engine that provides 184 horsepower as standard (although mine has been modified to run at 200 horsepower and should be 235 in the near future). This is more than enough to cope with the 2 ton body and any passangers. The car is easily able to keep up with most sports cars and has many on-borad features and safety extras that make it a formidable rivale to most cars on the road today. With this in its defence i can't see how it is an old mans car. The XR2 and SRi crowd that have met with the volvo have definatley found that it is more than able to 'kick-ass' when it is needed, as have other cars.

The fuel economy is an issue though, the heavy build of the car and the size of the engine does mean that the fuel consumption is high in normal city driving. On the motorway it is a much better and easily travel from Leeds to London on one tank (approx 230 miles)with a full compliment of passangers and luggage.

The storage area is ample and the seating accomodation is sufficient for most families.

The volvo is a car that is plugged with stereotypes ,especially the 740 series. The take over by Renault has since seen a rise in popularity and the new sleaker designs are being met with great cheer by the buying/driving public.

In my opinion the voilvo 740 turbo it is one of the most sensible yet fun cars that i have ever owned.
