My XC70 was bought to replace a VW Touareg 3litre. The Touareg was good but a little too heavy in all departments, (not least consumption). Consequently we were looking for something a little leaner and meaner. However, we did not want to compromise on comfort or towing ability. We towed a heavy Hobby caravan around Germany, France and Holland without difficulty, unless being asked to slow down by traffic police is seen as a difficulty. The two and a half litre engine had a pleasing throaty tone and plenty of power to maintain speed on limit free motorways.
