The V40 is an interesting car. It's not the station we have come to expect from Volvo. It's neither as masculin nor as bricky as a conventional Volvo. It's design is slim, clean and as sexy as can be for a station wagon. Its seats embraces you, its stearing is solid and secure, its engine sounds confident. Netiher the sporthy whiiim, not the cheap sound of most commercial engines. Its interior is not catchy, but neither is it boring. It's functional and practical built with good material.

On the road it easily glides through the trafic, easily reaches 200 km/h (even though the official max. speed is said to be 195 for the 1.8 model). Newer Focus' or Megan's can't get close to this aerodynamic vehicle.

As for safety, it's the traditional Volvo. Airbags, air curtains, whisplash protection are some of the aspects, but more than that it's the way it makes you drive the car that is the true secret behinds its safety. This is a car in which it is very difficult to forget focusing on the road. It's comfortable seats, its sensitive breaks, its clean dashboard... everything is so right-in-its-place that all you can do is to concentrate on the road ahead. A 4 star Euro NCAP for a station wagon built in the 90's is certainly not bad either. The 5th star is missing since it lacks the back seat passanger air bags. But still the back seats are protected by air curtains, something missing in most other cars with 4 Euro NCAP stars.

Starting to be built in the mid 90's its still a car that catches the attention of passer by's and for a car designed more than 10 years ago, this is certainly not bad.

As it goes, BMW-owners are people that need something that will make them look fancy, Mercedes-owners are people that need to look rich, Volvo owners are people that don't need to look anything.

Summary: A great car for its price, unique design, sporty cruiser
