... is the ultimate volvo...for anyone who has a stack of kids to transport and yet has always sneered at the galaxys and sharans of our highways...well get one of these machines and you can be king of the road !!!....street cred and bags of space...it handles well (doesn't land on its roof at the slightest corner like a Discovery would) and if you get a good deal there will be change out of 40K to buy the kids some sweeties for the journey.... forgot to mention that I first considered getting an xc90 when i parked alongside one at the local tesco store.....its wheels came up to my little micra wing mirror (lovely wheels are'nt they i thought). ... ridden boot carpet. The cooling fan doesn't cool but instead blasts the driver with a barage of leaves, bugs and road debris. The engine fan comes on almost instantly and continues long after I have parked the car. The (automatic) gearbox has been replaced, repaired, fixed, gutted, replaced again, repaired again, fixed (supposedly) twice more, gutted again, completely revamped etc, etc by Volvo but it still changes DOWN gear at 60 mph and doesn't change UP until the engine is set to burst at 5,000 rpm plus, then, when I am comfortably cruising at 70 mph (3000rpm) it changes down 2 gears to 5.500 rpm and slows down by 15-20 mph whilst I'm trying to overtake...

... was looking for a sub 5k exec car. I didnt want a guzzler but did want to get around in comfort. My first choice was a BMW 3 series but just couldnt get one under 100k miles for the money I wanted to pay. Finally the S40 caught my eye; it is very modern looking with alloys, computer, part leather and nearly the image of a BMW. The only thing it didnt have was a CD player but fitting one cost me £100 from Halfords (and please fit it yourself, it is so easy!). This car is lovely, great to look at nice to drive and for the money you get so much motoring! The drive is great, a bit of poke if required and some nice mid range torque but you will struggle to overtake over 8...
