Advantages: Excellent Build Quality
Disadvantages: High Insurance
Built by VW, A presitge mark Having owned my MK3 GTI 16V since September, the only down fall is the high insurance group (15), but thats to be expected of a GTI. The MK3 comes in four derivatives, CL, Driver, GTI 8V and LTD editions VR6 and GTI 16V. The GTI 16V is the VR6 without the high service and tuning costs and is as equally as quick when it comes to the bendy stuff as it lacks the inherant heavy front end of the VR6 and the higher insurance group. Is a classy GTI above the boy racer image although the black 3dr GTI 16V are hard to come by. A reasonable light weight, high powered car, with VW design and build quality makes this an extremley good car. The drive- inherant 16V high power band means this car loves to be driven hard (mmmm) and pulls strong to the limiter. The 16V comes with electronic limited slip diff, with the later cars having the upgrade of VR6 front brakes. With discs all round and ABS this car goes, corners and stops with the best of them. Coupled with VW status and avaliable options. This is the GTI to buy. With VW quoted 147BHP this car tops 137MPH, along with a low 8 second 0-60, with upto 40 MPG being seen crusin up the motor way. There is also the rumour within the GTI clubs of the later cars having more power although never mentioned by VW, to be taken into account. This cars a more mature approach to high performance hot hatches without the hassle from the old bill. Fewwww Not a bad piece of informative information from a girl who knows her stuff. Any more info just askxx

- 19/04/04 Hi and welcome to dooyoo with an impressive review on performance. I would have liked a tad more from the consumer point of view though. Comfort, controls, MPG that sort of thing. :-) I hope you enjoy our friendly site. |
