VW Golf MK5
Advantages: Comfy, good if you are tall, good value 2nd hand
Disadvantages: Electrics not great
I bought a brand new Golf GTI mk5 in 2006 I was on the waiting list for four months and I tell you know it took some real patience it seemed like forever but well worth it in the end.
The GTI is a fantastic car, really good handling for a front wheel drive, it is stuck to the road when you throw it round a corner.
I got the 18" upgrade wheels, leather interior and armrest interior. This cost 22k brand new.
The interior is really good if you are tall, I am 6ft 3" tall and it leaves loads of room above my head unlike my previous cars. The seats are one of the comfiest I have ever sat on for a middle of the range car, really soft but crafted to give great support too.
THe build quality is very high but what you would expect from the german giant, the doors lightly thunk as appose to clap shut, the dials I have always loved too in blue when lit up on a night.
Cabin space is really roomy although mine was the 3 door version it still had plenty of space for four fully grown adults with space left over for a small adult. The boot is good size too, perfect for a pram or pushchair with no wheels needing to be taken off the pram. The standard stereo is of real good quality too, you can not be disappointed with it at all.
The one thing I was really disappointed with was the electrics of the car, they used the same electrics as the mk4 version as I found up via the AA man once the alarm started playing up after 2 months, but was soon fixed and sorted.
This is a hatchback that will not disappoint and has been a top seller for so long now that this reflects just that. A really great motor
Summary: can fault it at all, great motor
