I have just discovered the joy of owning a Passat SE TDi Tiptronic estate. They are fantastic to drive, and the trim level is generous! from the Alloys to the 6 disc cd multichanger, I cannot fault it at all! (I had just come from owning and driving a Vectra LS DTi hatch). I just LOVE that blue dash! I don't think I'll ever tire of that! The performance is great (I have a 2k3 model!), despite 130k miles, it drives like new! Fuel economy is good, though my only gripe is that some Arriva buses have a tighter turning circle... Still, it's a lot of car to move around, and the 1.9 PD is a very good engine at that task.
I find the tiptronic is a little jerky in manual mode, (from first to second), and I wish there was a sports mode. You'll love the climate controlled air conditioning, if you've come from lower forms of life (Vauxhall) like me.
The heated windscreen makes quick work of any frost, and the flat-blade wipers do a great job!
These cars also hold their value, and you can't go wrong with one of these cars! Fantastic for the motorway, just don't get too carried away, the limit is only 70 miles an hour...
When I decided to change to an automatic I thought I would try a diesel. My search inevitably led to VW. I didn't even know that the tiptronic existed - it is outstanding. You wouldn't know it's a diesel if it wasn't for the extra engine noise when starting or waiting at a quiet junction and the amount of times you end up driving straight past the petrol station. I used to have BMWs, which I loved, this I love even more! The salesman said he could have sold it ten times over - I believe him.
