Trixie Can Cover
by thehonesttruth
I have two cats that mainly eat wet food. Sometimes when I feed them, there will be a little food left over in the can. I used to put it into the fridge but found the smell would rather put me off my own food every time I opened the fridge door. For a short while, I put the half used cans in a cupboard, but I did worry about the food ... perhaps spoiling in there, so I'd end up tossing out part used cans.
A few months ago whilst in the pet shop picking up other bits and bobs I needed, I saw these, and decided they were just the ticket. There were two different packs available, one that had 2 10cm diameter covers, designed for larger 800g packs of pet food, and a pack of 3 7cm diameter ones, designed for standard 400g food cans. I picked up a pack of three, and at just £1.10 per pack, I wasn't too worried about the potential expense if they didn't do the job.
As you can see in the image above, there are three different coloured lids- a yellow one, a pink one, and a blue one. Other than the difference in colour, they all feature the same design, a cartoonish running puppy, in the centre of a circular lid with a little handle on one side that make the overall shape something like that of a paw.
These fit snugly and easily onto food cans, and feel very secure. You can flip the can upside down and know that the lid isn't going to come off. They've allowed me to keep my open pet food in the fridge without any nasty smells, and of course they keep the remaining pet food sealed hygienically.
They're also very easy to clean - a quick wash in warm soapy water and they are ready to be used again. Please be careful that your water is not too hot - I have found that very HOT water can cause the lids to lose shape a little and lose some of their tightness.
I've had these lids around 4 months now. One was regrettably ruined by me with water that was too hot - it still covered the can but didn't have as tight a seal. The other two work just as well as they ever did, sealing just as tightly. They've suffered a little cosmetically, with a few small scratches and some dulling of the plastic, but I didn't buy them for their looks so I can't really complain!
Overall, I'm giving these 4 stars - I'm taking one off for not having them in a cat design (or at least not in my local pet shop). Read the complete review |

Bob Martin Cat Litter Scoop
by Candyperfumegirl
We moved house a few months ago and in all honesty found it quite stressful, we had all the usual worries such as will we settle well into our new home? And will we be moving next door to lovely neighbours or ones from hell? Luckily everything went (fairly) smoothly, we did indeed settle in well and our neighbours seem nice enough. ... Unfortunately the same can't be said for our cat who didn't settle quite so well nor did he get on particularly well with the feline neighbours, in partiular a huge big black cat who seemed intent on picking on our poor cat. Our cat decided the best way of dealing with this pesky black cat was to avoid him altogether and sadly this means that he goes outside much less these days. So this ment he needed a litter tray and I also bought this Bob Martin Scoop which I am reviewing today.
I picked this litter scoop up in Asda in the pet isle, i chose this particular scoop quite simply because it was the only one available. I had however bought products from the Bob Martin range in the past and had never been disappointed with them, so I was more than happy to buy this brand again, plus it was priced at just 78p so it was pretty inexpensive.
The scoop has very simple packaging, it has a small piece of cardboard attached to it which gives the brand and product name along with the barcode and a simple cat picture. Bob Martin states that this scoop is "easy to use, stylish and robust".
According to Bob Martins website the scoop is available in grey and light blue, my local asda only had the blue, but I didn't really find this to be an issue, as long as the product does the job it is intended to do the colour is fairly insignificant. The handle is easy to hold and sufficiently long, there is a hole at the top should you need to hang it up, although I just store mine in the utility cupboard alongside the cat lit. The main part of the scoop is a square shape but with rounded edges and has a total of 14 rectangular holes. The holes are of a perfect size which allows the waste to be scooped up well with the excess cat lit being sieved through efficiently. This means that less cat lit is unnessesarily disposed of which is not only good for the enviroment but also makes bags of cat lit go that little bit further. The curved edges ensures everything stays on the scoop and I have never experienced any spillage.
I have been using the scoop for around five months now and have have no problems with it.The plastic is of a good quality and its thickness means it is unlikely to snap or split easily. It is strong, sturdy and as promised "robust" so I can see it lasting for sometime to come.
Maintenance of the cat lit tray is not my favorite chore but the Bob Martin scoop makes it that little bit easier so I believe it was 78p well spent.
A matching Bob Martin litter tray is also available but in my opinion a large washing up bowl works just fine anyways.
The Bob Martin Cat Litter Scoop is available in most large supermarkets and pet shops. Read the complete review |

Thomas Cat Litter
by purplekimmy
I have only bought this cat litter once that was more than enough times to work out how horrendously bad this litter is. I think you will understand where I am coming from when I say that I prefer to buy Sainburys Basics cat litter to this.
When our kitten Alfie had been brought home from the vets after being spade, we ... obviously had to keep him in for a while. Out came the delightful cat litter tray and I had to buy some cat litter, unfortunately I was no-where near our local supermarket so couldn't buy Basics. I headed instead to our local corner shop and purchased a bag of Thomas cat litter. It was the only brand they sold and at £2.99 it wasn't horrendously priced. It is in a very striking yellow bag and has 5L of litter in it. The handle which is plastic is horrible, digs into your hands a lot and I much prefer the cardboard handles which do hold up well to carrying. I cut the top with scissors and poured it into the tray.
Well it is basically stones in a bag, they have no soaking ability at all and they don't even attempt to hide any kind of odour, it seems to make the smell worse if I am honest. I do tend to collect any presents left for me as soon as I can as I hate the smell but if I am out and about and the cat is left to his own devices, there is litter everywhere apart from covering his parcels. I am not sure who turned their nose up more Alfie or me! It is a grey colour and has a lot of powder included with it, be prepared for a dust storm when tipping it into the litter tray. When wet it goes very gloopy and sticks to the bottom in a kind of modelling clay type way, maybe you could use this to mould your cat a new bowl as being a cat litter really isn't its calling.
I would rather use newspaper if I had run out than use this again, no good qualities at all. Read the complete review |
