Advantages: Honestly there aren't any
Disadvantages: Flimsy, poor fit in standard litter trays, awful scent
Until my kitten is old enough and big enough for me to be brave and let him outside, I have been trying allsorts of things to make cleaning his litter tray easier. Litter tray liners seem like the perfect thing just to pick up and get rid of, scented litter tray liners seem even better because then it might not smell quite so offensive!
I ordered the Armitage Scented Good Girl Litter tray Liners from netpetshop.co.uk when I was ordering some toys and a cat carrier - may aswell get all of the essentials at one - and thought I would give them a go. Currently priced at 54p down from £1.81 they seem like an absolute bargain especially as there are 6 liners in a pack.
When they arrived I tore them open and hit with an overwhelming smell of babypowder/flowers/perfume and to be honest I found it a little sickening. Luckily once you cover them with the litter, the litter masks the smell and unless you're really close to the tray, you won't have to smell it again until you pull the liner out.
The idea is that you use it like a carrier bag and just pick the sides up with all the litter and mess then throw it away. If only. What the pack doesn't tell you is that the base of the bag has seams like a standard carrier bag so it is easy for your cat/kitten to get litter under the folds and even better they can tear holes in the liner whilst it's in the tray. Great. When it was time to get rid of the first liner I still had to get a bag out to put everything in so it was firstly not very environmentally friendly but secondly very inconvenient and quite messy (which obviously I hoped we'd got round)
As I had a pack of 6 I decided to give them another chance and exactly the same thing happened again. Litter under the folds and little kitten claw holes straight through the bag so there might as well not have been anything there.
At this point the rest of the litter tray liners went in the bag with the dirty litter and I went back to newspaper which I had been using prior to this. It's harder to get claws through and is easier to slide out the tray straight into a bag (and once I've read the paper it's technically free).
At 54p they would have been a bargain if they had worked but they didn't work at all and the scent was off putting. For that 54p I could have put it towards a paper to read and the use or towards the p&p of my order.
Will I be buying these again? Not even if you paid me.
Summary: Scented litter tray liners which really are more hassle than they're worth.
