I have a beautiful cat that I adopted from a rescue shelter. He had quite a rough start to life and so was of quite a nervous disposition when we first adopted him. I decided I needed to buy some flea protection as he enjoyed going out and I saw this product in the supermarket. I thought it would be ideal - he really hates loud or sudden noises so I was happy to pay the fairly expensive £6.99 for the 145ml bottle. The bottle claimed it would protect the cat for up to six weeks so I thought it would be quite a good investment.
I can't really comment on the efficacy of this product as it has been sat in my cupboard since the first spray of it! I waited until my cat was really relaxed and sprayed the product and was appalled at how ironically named it is! The apparently 'quiet pump action trigger' definitely does not work. It made a really loud spraying noise and my cat ran a mile the poor thing! I sprayed the product a few more times (far away from my cat) to check whether it was just that the pump needed to be worn a little. It made absolutely no difference and still emitted a really loud noise.
I have heard tales from other cat owners who managed to get the product on their cat and found it to be really irritating to their cats. Steer clear of this product, there are much better alternatives available.
was horrified to discover my cat had fleas a few months ago, and wanted to get rid of them asap. I was a little baffled as to where he got them from as he doesn't go outside much at all, but I became a woman on a mission. I went down to the pet shop to see what they recommend to get rid of them as quickly as possible. They advised that the best way to prevent them was to use a spot-on product such as Frontline or Advantage, but I would need to use a spray to kill the current infestation. St this point I saw Bob Martin's Silent Flea Spray and decided that that would be a good idea as I could zap him while he was having is food or otherwise distracted and he wouldn't even notice. How wrong I was!
The bottle was a good shape and size, slim and light enough to hold with one hand while stroking the cats fur backwards with the other, as directed. In theory it would have worked perfectly, but the first spray almost made me jump, never-mind the cat. I can honestly say that I have deodorants and hairsprays that spray more quietly than this!
I then reverted to plan B. After concluding that the spray wasn't quiet, I decided that if it worked effectively it would be worth holding my cat still whilst spraying him. To do this I had to wait a while, and then hide the bottle as just the sight of it now made him run! I finally managed to do this, and waited. Then checked. Then waited until the following day, then checked again. And the same the next day, until I concluded that after all that effort the spray didn't work at all.
On top of all this, the smell is terrible. I wasn't expecting it to rival a flowery air freshener but still I hoped it would be slightly more pleasant than it was.
I was always under the impression that Bob Martin was one of the leading manufacturers of pet care product, but after having this discussion with several people, it seems (from what I've heard) that a lot of their products don't seem to work very well. Obviously, some people will have had luck with this product which is great, but personally I was very disappointed and won't be buying it again. The only reason I gave it 2 stars rather than 1 is due to the fact that in theory it is a good idea, but it was very different in practice.
