Advantages: Cheap, cats seem to love them.
Disadvantages: Not the sturdiest toy I have purchased.
My cat is now eleven years old and whilst not as active as she once was, she still has her moments and mad half hours where she will rush around the house or the garden with her ears back and a manic expression on her face!
She has a couple of toys, but to be honest she tends not to bother with them, showing little interest and instead seems to prefer batting a pen off the coffee table or chasing butterflies and moths outside.
So when a work colleague gave me this cat dangler toy for my cat, I wasn't sure whether she would be interested in it or not.
The reason my colleague gave me this toy was because she had recently got a cat, but it got outside whilst she was trying to keep it in and disappeared. A couple of months on and with the cat still missing and probably very unlikely to be found, she decided to give the items away she had bought for her cat as the whole experience had left her too upset to consider getting another pet.
Knowing that I had a cat, she brought a few items in for me and asked me to take them home for my cat and this toy was amongst them.
My friend had bought this cat dangler toy online and stated she paid a couple of pounds for it. Its correct title is a Cat Dangler Pole Feather Boa and a quick look online tells me this is available from online retailers. For example, this particular toy can be purchased from www.zooplus.co.uk priced at £1.99.
This Cat Dangler Pole Feather Boa features a thin rod with a hanging tail of marabou feathers. This toy is designed to help fine tune your cat's instincts and concentration in a playful way as they chase the feathers through the air as you swing it about, or bat and catch the feather if you trail them along the floor.
The feathers are suspended from the rod on a piece of elastic, which I found wore quite easily and I had to cut and tie it again to the rod, but this wasn't really any problem. My biggest surprise was discovering that this was actually a toy my cat was interested in and wanted to play with!
She appears to like chasing it along the floor more than in the air, but this could be down to the fact she is eleven and not a kitten or young cat. She does however, seem to enjoy short spells playing with this toy and the only problem with playing with it on the floor, is that she manages to snare and grab the feathers in her claws, which has led to them shredding maybe more easily then if they were being played with by waving the rod around in the air which would be more difficult for her to grab. I regularly check this toy each day and discard any loose feathers.
Overall, I am happy with this cat dangler toy and it is providing exercise for my cat who has been starting to lead a less active life than she once did. She seems more than happy to play around with it for a few minutes each day. I would think that younger cats and kittens would also absolutely love this toy too.
I have owned this cat dangler for a few weeks now and whilst some of the feathers have been shredded there are still some feathers remaining and a little more life is left in it yet. It is important however to regularly check the toy for damage and replace when you think it is necessary. As already mentioned, I check this toy daily for damage and when it is time to throw this toy away, I will be looking to purchase another one and think they are well worth the £1.99 price tag. They may not be the sturdiest cat toy around but last long enough to justify the price.
It is also possible to purchase a pack of two of these cat dangler toys for just £2.90 which is even better value and this is what I shall be ordering when it is time to replace this toy.

Summary: A cat toy which offers a lot of fun and exercise for your cat.
