Having a box which is basically a big box of poo around the house is not the most pleasant thing but when you have a cat it is pretty much necessary. We have tried numerous litter trays and this one so far has seemed to be the best. We always have a debate in our house as where is the best place to put a litter tray. Although we clean ours regularly and the litter that goes in it is one that stops the wee and poo from smelling I think there is never a perfect place for this. Initially we had it in our toilet but when we moved and got a utility room the litter box went in there as its the room that we use the least and hopefully it will be well out of the way here and not somewhere where guests to our house are going to run into it like they would in the toilet or kitchen.
The thing I probably like best about this litter box from Catit is that it has a lid to it. This is great for us for a number of reasons. When Whizz the cat just had a litter box with an open top the litter always seemed to be kicked on the outside of the tray and would end up all over the floor. Whizz likes to bury her wee and poo when she has done it so the action of her scraping her front and back paws to bury this meant a lot of the litter ended up on the floor. With the lid this is not possible even if she buries it as it just hits the sides inside and doesn't come out. Another great reason for the lid is that we have a little boy who is crawling and who likes to eat dog food out of the dog bowl before we remember to move it up high so god forbid he would ever get into the litter tray and try to eat its contents, yuck!! The lid prevents that even though he can't really get into the utility anyway. I find also that even though we have non smelly cat litter it does always have a bit of a funny aroma but I think having a lid on the top stops it smelling almost completely which is another good bonus. The lid opens really easily though when you want to remove it to clean the box so that is nice. There are clips on the side that you just slide and then the lid lifts up.
I find Whizz goes into this box easily. Its fairly tall so she is not needing to squeeze in or anything like that. There is a cat flap door at the front which is see through so she just goes on, does her business and comes out again, perfect. There is also a handle on the top of the litter tray so if you do need to move it this makes it really easy to move and you are not having to grab the whole box and move it like you would a cardboard box.
The dimensions of this litter tray are given as:
Total: 56 x 50 x 47 cm (L x W x H)
Door opening with swing flap: W 21-24 cm x H 26 cm
Tray height: front approx. 17 cm, back approx. 28 cm
Entrance height: 17 cm
We paid £20 and I really like it and will continue to use it until it becomes stained and we need to get a new one at which time I will probably purchase the same one again.
