CatIt Litter Scoop
Advantages: good quality
Disadvantages: not the best tool to work with
Dealing with the cat litter box is my least favourite job but I have a sensitive nose so I have to keep on top of it. My cat is a little bit peculiar too and does not like to go in a dirty box, you have to take the poo out of the box after he does it. To keep on top of the problem, I bought this cat litter scoop.
==Price and availability==
This scoop will set up back a grand amount of £3.99 from Pets At Home. This is pricey for a bit of moulded plastic but at the time it was the only one I could find and I liked the design.
This scoop is made from plastic and has a long handle. The whole thing measures 32 cm. The scoop is not overly round but is more flat, it is designed with a sort of sieve in mind as it has holes in it that litter can fall through. The overall construction of the item is ok and you can see why they get away with charging nearly four pounds for it. It is sturdy, well made and has a nice feel to it. The handle is easy to hold with a square bottom that stops your hand from sliding off.
The first couple of times I used this, I thought it was great. You stick it in the litter, scoop up the poo, shake the scoop over the litter tray so you end up with just the poo rather than poo and litter and pop it in a nappy sack to put in the bin. I liked the way the scoop didn't remove too much litter with it, after all if I am doing this three times a day I do not want to remove too much litter every time or I would end up with hardly anything left. After a few uses though, the scoop ended up looking a bit dirty. As you shake the scoop you are rolling around the excrement on the tool so inevitably some does deposit on the scoop itself. Lovely. I was not sure where to keep the scoop so ended up keeping it in a plastic bag next to the litter box as I did really want something so unhygienic out. In the end, I found scooping in the litter tray with my hand in a nappy bag far more successful as all you need to do is turn the bag inside out and you have the job done. That was another disadvantage to the litter scoop as the spade end was quite wide it was always a performance trying to get the poo into the bag!
Ah! A pointless instrument that I should never have purchased in the first place and I probably would not recommend it.
